The Edit Screen

Opening a show lands you in the edit screen, where all mark-up happens.

Layout

  • App bar (top) — back, show title, bookmark toggle , song toggle , Tools (the Fly state / Dome pairing / Cue list hub), search field , whole-script search , a theme icon that cycles System → Light → Dark, Setup , a play button (enters show mode), and the page options menu (⋮) : Page thumbnails (the page grid, where duplicate/import/scan/split live), Cue list , Notes , Fly state , Dome & Spot pairing , Export PDF , Backup show (save as .lx1 or share it), Restore from backup , Add blank page (inserted after the current page) and Delete this page (asks first; not offered on a one-page show).
  • Tool bar (second row) — quick-add buttons for Cue , Blocking , Text and Add Note , then the drawing categories (Select , Pen , Highlight , Line , Eraser , Shape ), Photos (with a count badge when the page has scene photos), Tools , and Undo / Redo . On the right sit the auto-stamp timer icon and the show timer. When auto-stamp is armed, tapping Next stamps the elapsed show time on a page that has no timestamp yet before turning it — see Text & Timestamps. Select (the cursor icon ) is the default tool — taps select existing strokes, shapes, and elements instead of drawing a new stroke.
  • Two different “Tools” — the app-bar Tools opens a separate screen for show-wide reference (fly state, dome pairing, cue list). The tool-bar Tools is a category whose buttons (Clean, Clear, Axes, History…) appear in the left panel — see Tools.
  • On narrower tablets (for example an iPad mini, a 10" Android tablet in portrait, or the app in a pop-up window) the bars make room automatically: the search box becomes a button, Tools , Setup and Theme move to the top of the ⋮ menu, and Add Text , Add Note , Line and Photos move into the tool bar’s More tools button. Nothing is removed.
  • Left panel — options for the selected drawing category (pen colours, line styles, shape styles, tools). It’s empty for Select, which leaves the page the room. While you’re placing cues or blocking it swaps to a placement rail instead — Time (drop a timestamp) in both, plus Group for cues. It also goes blank while placing text, since drawing tools don’t apply then.
  • Page — the script page itself.
  • Page indicator bar (bottom) — one segment per page. Green segments contain cues, amber-outlined segments are bookmarked, and the taller segment in the accent colour is the current page. Tap any segment to jump.
  • Page controls (very bottom) — the elapsed / remaining show time on the left (once the timer has started), then Prev , the page counter, Next , Next cue (jump to the next page with a cue) and Next song . Tap the counter (e.g. “12 / 159”) to type a page number. The Navigate button (compass icon ) at the right end opens the bottom sheet with Songs / Bookmarks / Cues / Notes tabs — see Navigation and zoom.

One finger, two fingers

The golden rule of the edit screen:

  • One finger — or the S Pen / Apple Pencil — always belongs to the active tool: drawing a stroke, placing a cue, selecting an element.
  • Two fingers always move and zoom the page (pinch and drag).

Selecting elements

Switch to the Select tool (cursor icon on the tool bar — also the default) and tap anything on the page: a cue, blocking, timestamp, shape, or drawn stroke (pen, highlight, whiteout, or straight line). A menu bar appears at the bottom titled by the selection — e.g. LX 3 for a cue (with any Description quoted beside it) — with Edit , Duplicate , and Delete buttons. Delete asks for confirmation first. Tap the × on the menu bar, or tap empty page, to deselect.

Cues, blocking, timestamps and cue groups also get an Align button, which snaps the element back onto the text axes (see Axes) after you’ve dragged it away. Its icon shows which gutter it snaps to: align left for an element on the left side (its right edge lands on the Left axis) and align right for one on the right side (its left edge lands on the Right axis). It’s greyed out (“Set the axes first”) until the show’s axes are set.

A cue inside a group adds a Group section to the menu bar: move the cue left or right within the group (its position shows between the arrows), Align (which moves the whole group), Cues per line (Auto or a fixed count), Remove from group , and Ungroup all . See Cues.

Cues, blocking, and timestamps stay tappable from any tool, so you don’t need to switch to Select just to move a cue while sketching. Strokes and shapes need Select mode because in the drawing tools every tap starts a new stroke or shape.

A selected element can be dragged to reposition it. The menu bar’s Edit button opens the properties popup for anything selected; cues, blocking and timestamps also open it on a double-tap.

Undo

Every content change (placing, moving, deleting, drawing, clearing a page) can be undone, up to 30 steps back, with the Undo / Redo buttons in the tool bar.

The floating cue and blocking placement panels have their own header: drag it to move the panel — release and it snaps to the nearest of 8 anchor positions around the edge (the four corners, plus top-centre, bottom-centre, left-centre and right-centre) and reopens there next time. Docked at top-centre or bottom-centre, a panel switches to a wider, flatter layout to suit sitting on the top or bottom edge; every other anchor keeps the taller single-column layout. Pause to stop tap-to-place for a moment so you can tap the page normally ( resumes), and × to close the panel.
